WHAT WE AIM TO DO AND WHY
"The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul"
Wyland
The oceans and its inhabitants are undisputedly one of the most beautiful ecological systems on this wonderful planet. From the ever-changing landscape of the ocean floor to the blooms of colourful coral that border the reefs – we are lucky to be witness to such beauty.
There are many passionate souls who devote their life work to researching, conserving and preserving the oceans. But to get to this point, it requires years of arduous hard work and study, and usually on a full-time basis. It can be financially draining on a student wishing to study this field, and for this reason, some very gifted and talented individuals miss out on the opportunity to do so. In turn, our oceans become sacrificed because we have less people entering the industry.
The Cherie Bish Marine Research Fund operates to donate much-needed funds to finance research work that is being performed by these students, to alleviate their financial burden. These bequests can cover the cost of flights to areas of research, accommodation in facilities and much needed equipment.
Students will apply for a Grant through their individual University, who will pass on the applications to The Cherie Bish Marine Research Fund for assessment and review. While it is our dream to finance many, many projects – the reality is that we can only provide funds within our donation capacities.
The Fund was created in memory of Cherie Bish, who was a Marine Biologist, active conservationist and passionate scientist.
